Well the last two weeks of pistol league got shot last night. I shot 252 the first round (week 9) and week 10 I got better than 400 pts like 414. The amazing improvement, caused by borowing the range officer's gun. He loaned me his S&W Model 41 with it's red dot sight. I think my gun needs some work or replacement before next season.

Well I had some good targets and some bad targets. On the good targets it was clear that my grip was better. So I think that's the idea for practice this weekend. Work on predictable grip, and maybe work on the wiggly rear sight. Also Chilly is going to bring me his spare .22 so we'll see if I do better with it. I hit 374/600. First target only 7 of 10 shots hit the paper. I don't understand why slow fire is sooo much harder for me than rapid fire. My two timed fire targets were both over 85 points! One was 89. If I could get all my targets up that high I'd be thrilled.

Well another week another medocre score. But this one was another 50pts up from my previous high. I adusted my sights up some more. I hit the end of the upward travel. This made me wonder what was wrong. Since really I shouldn't ever get to the end of the travel on a rear sight. This made me look at the front sight. Which is not correctly seated in it's groove. It looks decidedly as though it has been dropped. I do not recall it being dropped. I do recall one pistol case being dropped at a l-space run to Chilly's. I thought it had air pistols in it. Anyhow..

Adjusting the sights all the way up helped a bunch. Also I decided to try blinding my left eye since I was shooting right handed. Rather than shooting with the eye opposite of the hand. I think this helped some too. I had a much better time getting good sight picture.

I'm going to try and find a gunsmith who can whack my sight back into place yet this week. If I can't I might try tapping it back to level with a wooden block. It's pretty obvious where it belongs, and it just isn't there.

Anyhow I shot a 323. Previous high was 277. I am still the crappiest shooter in the league, but one of two not using red dot sights, and the only one not using a dedicated target pistol.

well tonight was week three of leagues. I shot crappy again. Week 1 was 201. Week 2 was 277. Week 3 241. That said it was the best of my weeks. Why? because all the shots fell below the center of the black. Most fell below the whole black. This wouldn't make many people happy. But for me, at least it means I've gotten my consistency vertically down to about a 2-3inch wide band. Which if I move my sights up will string across the black, which means more points.

Still stringing out badly left to right (like the whole width of the paper)

The new glasses were helpful. I can see a lot more clearly now. Next week however since I have switched to right handed I think I'll put a blinder over my LEFT eye and see how that works. I might go in this weekend and shoot for half an hour or so and see if I can get my sights run up to where I put most the shots on the target, rather than most on the paper but all below the center of the target. Cause if I just move my groups up about 3" everything would be better. I'd still suck. But you know sucking with more points.

Well today after work Chilly and I headed up to Metro, but we weren't shooting shotguns for a change. We've decided to sign up for the winter pistol league instead and stay inside. It starts next week. Thinking gee it's been like 18 months since my pistol last got out of the safe we went for some practice. I've got a new standard for myself. I want all my shots on the paper. I'm currently managing about 80% on the paper, but all of them are below the center of the target. So I'm thinking adjust my sights up and I can get them all on the paper and more of them in the black.

In a 10 shot string I've got two or three little groups of 2-3 shots and a couple missing. If I move my sights so my POI is 2 inches higher than it is now (at 50') I should have them all in the target at least. Well I'm assuming my missing two shots are off the botttom of the paper. This however seems to make sense with what I'm seeing. Now to figure out how many clicks/inch on my sights.
