Ed goes to the Vet tonight. Lucky him, shots. OOH fun. Have to remember this when I get home, so as he actually gets there.

Just walked the bad bad beagle boys. We crossed paths with a really cute bassett hound named Callie, a try color, but with an open back, not a saddle, big black spots on her lower back and shoulder but a white ticked stripe in the middle. Very sweet, and ears like velvet. Made my day seem a bit better.

The more I think about it the more I am convinced western society is heading for a fall the likes of which the world has never seen. It will be something akin to the fall of Rome. How do I know this? Well look at us, we are fast becoming the Roman Empire of the modern world. We have learning and science on our side, we are largely profitable fat and happy. But more than that, as in Rome our cultural literacy is failing, our attention to detail is wandering. Hell just read this e-mail I got at the office. I promise one neat fridge find to anybody who can parse it and figure out exactly why I would follow through with the instructions.
FYI: The refrigerator will be cleaned out on Friday at 2:00 pm. Please make sure your excess garbage is removed or it will be thrown away. Thank you for your cooperation.
I would think that it would be easier to leave my garbage and let them throw it out. I can see rescuing valuable things, like a jar of mayo, and putting it back at 2:30 when the fridge cleaning is over, but why would I go find my excess garbage and remove it? Our choices of entertainment are getting more and more like those of the Romans heading for the fall as well. I am not the first to have said this, nor will I be the last. I wonder how historians 100 years from now or 500 will look back on this time. Will it be the last moments of glory, or the first bit of the slide, are we half way down already and too blind to notice? Who will be the Germanic Tribes in all of this? All those nations we have occupied and policed for their own good? Will the Arabic nations once again be the maintainers of math and science until we can get around to rediscovering the need for it? Or will that fall to the African or Latin American nations?

Pretentious aren't I.

http://www.thecharlie.com/greeneggs.lasso this is really weird. I mean sure there are messages in some of the Dr. Suess books. Lorax is clearly environmental. But this is stretching things a bit far.

domestication and natural selection

just when you start thinking your sweet house pets aren't really animals any more they go and do something nasty to prove you wrong. In this case my beagles ate a whole nest of baby bunnies. Or at least 2-3 bunnies. And dropped one in the hallway in exchange for a milkbone, so I suspect mort had had his fill of rabbit. Blech...I hate dealing with dead things....but I sucked it up and did it. Toad should be so proud. I think later I might take them for a walk around the block or something. Just to get some energy off of them without having to let them back in the back yard for a bit. I suspect the nest was originally not in the yard, as bunnies even full sized ones rarely survive a few minutes in there, let alone a nest of them until the little ones were of mobile size.

sopwith kennels? I like it.

So should I give up a promising if currently stagnant career in IT to open a boarding kennel? Would you send your dogs to me?

new used pda

I bought a broken PDA off eBay a Handspring Visor Platinum to be precise. I paid $16.68 plus $6.00 shipping, so a grand total of $24.68. The glass was broken and the digitizer didn't work. The LCD and the rest of the device were fine. It is missing a plastic cover, and its sync cradle. I had just bought myself a cable to replace the cradle on my PDA anyhow ($14.99) since I was syncing to my laptop and the cradle didn't go in the laptop bag so swell, thereby giving me a spare cradle. One of my co-workers is giving me her plastic cover...it's the wrong color(clear instead of black). Cry me a river.

After receiving the PDA and giving it a looking over I went to the source for PDA parts for the repair your own type of person. (www.gethightech.com) I found it using the expedient searching Google for visor screen repair
I purchased new glass/digitizer combo for $50 plus $4.99 shipping and handling.

For those following along PDA $24.68 plus parts $54.99 equals good as new Visor Platinum for $79.67. A savings of $90.32. I think I did ok.

Had a good time at demicon, didn't work too much but I did volunteer some. Saw lots of folks I don't see that often. Made me even more depressed about ever moving to Minnesota though. I will never get a job up there. I should just get over that idea and get on with finding ways to avoid going more insane here in the next 26 years.

http://kip.sateh.com/~ruben/FunRFCs/rfc3252.shtml I failed to go look for this at the start of last month. It is funny as always, the annual funny RFC posted on April 1.
