Friends rule! I have been having a heck of a week.. hardware failures, pissy users, dead batteries in my noise cancling headphones. Then I had these two machines I made the mistake of letting the gateway restore CD rebuild, rather than doing it by hand. I figured hey what could it hurt? BIG mistake. First no sound, drivers load, things look good, windows has no clue what sound is. Then no login screens. I will never remember that technet is avaliable on the web, I used it off CD for too long I guess. Anyhow I am finding NO solution, so I wander off to l-space a BBS run by some friends of mine, and gripe about my mystery problem. Less than 20 minutes later someone has posted the answer, a handy technet article. Zip over to the boxes delete the offending registry key reboot and yippee! problem solved. Now if only I could get Compaq's Smart Start to run on that dang Proliant 1200.
notes from the frontier of boredom
the semi-lucid ramblings of a person on the frontier of boredom without anything to do, and without any meaningful direcion. I love my job. Since I started working here I figured I'd spend the next 30 years doing the same thing. My free time is eaten up. I still don't really have much of a life, but I'm busy and it looks like fun.
